The making of a small shop shelf sign.

My recent idea is to put together a starter pack for shop outlets to stock my creations.
Making the jewellery is like second nature but I thought the pack should come with
my logo for the shop shelf.
And here is what happen.
First idea was to use a piece of perspex 20cm x 10cm.
perspex
The tools required were, plus a few hand tools.
A saw
saw
A router/dremel
dremel
A chunk of wood
wood
A sand blaster plus compressor.
The Craft ROBO cutter for making the stencil
A brief story of how to make the shop logo sign.
My wonderful partner Sue of Inspired by Script, an excellent calligrapher turned wedding stationary specialist had already designed my logo a couple of years ago. She used the original to scan and then set her Craft ROBO cutting the A4 piece of sticky backed vinyl.
Once the stencil was made I attached it to the perspex.

The compressor was turned on and my little sand blaster was loaded with the abrasive, this time it was aluminium oxide, I etched within the stencil cutouts. After all the sand blasting was done, I removed the stencil and washed the perspex under water, making sure I did not cause any unwanted scratches.
The Base
As for the base, The chunk of wood was routed with the Dremel to a depth of 5mm to allow the sign to sit into it. Then I cut to approximate size using a saw. With a bit of planing and sanding I had the desire smooth feel to the piece of wood. A quick seal of Bee's wax and the sign foot was finished.
Then with a bit of hot glue I attached the perspex in the rebate and there you go.

The finished sign in perspex, or is it!!!!!!

I then decided to go through all this again but this time using glass as the sign material.
I much prefer the glass one. The image looks so much more crisp.
After all I do work in glass so that should have been my first thought.

My New Glass Shop Sign.

And that's about it. Now I just need to get this sign and a few of my jewellery pieces into a shop.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed another one of my sometimes crazy little makes.

Entwined Tree of Life Pendant. NOW SOLD.

The concept of the tree of life has been used in
science, religion, philosophy and mythology.
It's a common motif in various theologies, mythologies and philosophies.
Alluding to the interactions of all life in many culture.
A sacred tree, adored by many and ever lasting in the thoughts of
people throughout the world.

I love make all my jewellery
but the one that really floats my boat is the
Tree of Life Pendants.
I find this such a powerful symbol and when two are entwined it's even better.
This pendant was made using top quality green glass and the image fired into the
surface of the pendant. The symbology carried this colour glass really well, in my opinion.

New designs of Cancerian Fashion Pendants

A beautiful grey/blue pendant, one of the main colours for a Cancarian zodiac sign. Streaky glass with a hint of Dichroic Glass with a medium size image Pendant. Cancerians can seem easygoing, sympathetic, and patient one minute, then cranky and irritable the next. Because of this ability to make a sudden change, Cancer is the least predictable of all signs. Cancerians are very intuitive, almost to the point of being psychic. They are able to spot even the smallest change in another's behaviour, so it is hard to deceive them. This unique pendant is £15 plus £2 p&p, to order please contact me via Facebook or via email at stevesmithjewellery@yahoo.co.uk

Fairy Decal Pendant jewellery
When next meet in the Fairy dell,
May the silver moon's soft light
Shine then the faces gay as now,
And Elfin hearts as light.
Now spread each wing, for the eastern sky
With sunlight soon will glow.
The morning star shall light us home.
Farewell! for the Elves must go.

Fairy song

Tree of Life Pendant Jewellery
The oaks and the pines, and their brethren of the wood,

have seen so many suns rise and set,
so many seasons come and go,
and so many generations pass into silence,
that we may well wonder what
"the story of the trees"
would be to us if they had tongues to tell it,
or we ears fine enough to understand.

Dragon Eye Pendant Jewellery
Gaze into a dragon's eyes
Go with him and sever ties
From tortured reality and a world so plain
Into the world where fiction reigns.

Macavity's a Mystery Cat: he's called the Hidden Paw -
For he's the master criminal who can defy the Law.

Sairys,Grael,Fafnir,Nailyon

Dichroic Glass Cremation Pendant.

I recently had what I thought was a strange request at the time.
A Dichroic Glass Cremation Pendant.
But after googling the idea I realised that this was not a unique request and after a bit more head scratching I worked out how it could be done.
I worked out the price's and contacted Karen, the customer with the news.
Karen is such a lovely woman, really friendly and smiley. She told me all about Brian, her late father and that she would love to have a pendant made to hold close to her at all times.
A few days later Karen, armed with a small heart shaped box of ashes turned up at the studio. It was a bit weird to think "I have a box of ashes in my hands" but once Karen explained how close she was with him and how much of a jocker he was. The weird feeling soon left me and I took a small amount of Brian's ashes for the pendant.
Karen had chosen the colours and size for the finished piece and she left me to it.
A few days later I had fired Brian on some gorgeous Dichroic Blue/green glass and for an extra bit (that I had not mentioned before) I had ground out a small heart shape in the back to put a little bit of the ashes there too.
As you can see from the following photos. The colours are stunning, the bail looks lovely and Brian sits well in his new home.

There was a twist in the making of this cremation pendant.
As I said before Brian was a bit of a jocker and as you can see. He is still working his magic. I have made hundreds of pendants over the last few years and have never before had this strange dimple on the edge, almost like Brian's up to his old jocks again, even in the afterlife.

I will let you decide on that one.......

If you would like a Dichroic Glass Cremation Pendant of a loved one then please contact me on

stevesmithjewellery@yahoo.co.uk

and I will see what can be done. Price's start from as little as £25 and go upwards. It just depends on what you want.
